Catch: Initiating Mindful Mastery for Smooth Living

When we row a boat, there is that brief moment when the oars meet the water. The blades are smoothly and swiftly lowered into the water, and they begin to change direction. This is where the boat changes momentum.


This is the “catch,” the initial moment of connection with the blades and the water. This process continues over and over again, as the boat flows skillfully and smoothly through the water.

 

Mindfulness practices, meditative movement, and other awareness crafts are our “catch” phases throughout our journey on the water. This is where we intently connect ourselves to higher states of awareness. By using directed skills, we gain momentum.


The catch is a process that is repeated time and time again, constantly evolving and renewing. There comes a point when we just allow the oars to catch and release, where there is freedom and peace within, a magical effortless effort.

 

Repeatedly, with engaged practice of mindful mastery, we place the oars into the water with our best effort and angle, learning and mastering along the way.


All this, while consistently releasing and freeing them into the open space of awareness, knowing, and understanding, as we glide along through the water with a great big smile.
